12 November 2009 – France – Former NOC President Henri Sérandour passes away
Henri Sérandour, President of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee with four succesive mandates from 1993 to 2009, Chancellor of ANOC since April 2006, passed away on November 12, 2009 at the age of 72.
Vice-President of the French Swimming Federation from 1974 to 1981, then President from 1981 to 1983, Vice-President of the European Swimming League from 1984 to 1992, he was an Executive Member of the International Amateur Swimming Federation from 1992 to 1996. Brought to the NOC presidency in 1993, he was reelected President for another three successive mandates in 1997, 2001 and 2005.
He was elected IOC Member in 2000, a function he relinquished in 2007, having reached the age limit. In his message of condolences to the French NOC, the President of ANOC, Mr Mario Vázquez Raña highlighted his "long and fruitful action in the service of sport, his country and Olympism".

31 March 2009 – Puerto Rico – Passing away of former Olympic leader Libertario Pérez
Libertario Pérez, former Vice-President of the Olympic Committee of Puerto Rico, who contributed in the drafting of the first Constitution of ANOC and was ANOC Executive Council member for America from its foundation in 1979 until 1990, President of ANOC's Juridical Commission from 1983 to 1987, former President of the North-Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), passed away aged 73. In his message of condolences to the NOC of Puerto Rico, the President of ANOC Mr Mario Vázquez Raña lamented the loss of "a person who was during many years a bright and outstanding leader of olympic sport at national, continental and world levels".

13 February 2009 – Australia – Death of Julius Patching
Julius Patching (Australia), former Secretary General of the Australian Olympic Committee, first Secretary General of ONOC, ANOC Executive Council member for Oceania from 1986 to 1990, passed away aged 92. In recognition of his outstanding role in Oceania's olympic sport, he had been awarded the inaugural ONOC Merit Award. He was also a recipient of the ANOC Merit Award.

3 February 2009 – Chinese Taipei – Death of Mr Henry Heng Hsu
Henry Heng Hsu, former Vice-President (1965-1973) then President (1973-1974) of the Chinese Taipei NOC, passed away aged 96.
An all-round sportsman and gold medallist in international Volleyball, Football, Swimming and Water-Polo competitions, Henry Heng Hsu was, among other functions, President of the Swimming N.F. from 1954 to 1965, Vice-President of the Asian Federation for this sport since 1966 and Council member of the Asian Games Federation from 1966 to 1972.
A Member of Parliament from 1972 to 1986, he was in particular a National Policy Advisor to the President of Chinese Taipei from 1987 to 2000.

14 January 2009 – Panama – Passing away of Carlos A. Vásquez
Carlos A. Vásquez, former President of the Olympic Committee of Panama from 1970 to 1974, and a Permanent Member of the Committee since then, died on January 14, 2009.
