ANOC Executive Council Meetings



On December 3rd 2012 the Executive Council of ANOC met in Lausanne for its last session this year. ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah presented the draft of the new Constitution that will be sent out to the 204 NOCs on January 7th for their comments.

The agenda also included a presentation of the Report given by ANOC Secretary General, Gunilla Lindberg, after the Debriefing session of the London Olympic Games, held in Rio de Janeiro on November 19-21. ANOC's final document compiling all the Recommendations that were made will be sent to all NOCs before the end of the year.

The next meeting of the Executive Council will take place in March 2013.

On November 9th 2012, ANOC held its Council Meeting in Macau, the same day when Olympic Solidarity's Meeting was held. Council Meeting reports were given by Lord Sebastian Coe, President of LOCOG, Mr. John Fahey, President of WADA as well as from ANOC Secretary General Ms. Gunilla Lindberg and the Chairpersons of the Working Commission for the Amendments to the ANOC Constitution, Mr. Mike Chambers and of the Working Group for the Modernization of ANOC, Mr. Kevan Gosper.

ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah thanked all members of both Commissions for the hard work they had done over the past months. He congratulated Lord Coe on his report, on the great success of the London 2012 Olympic Games and on his election as President of the British Olympic Association on November 7th.

ANOC 56th Council Meeting was held in Lausanne on May 7th, 2012. This was the first meeting chaired by the H.E. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah since his election as President of ANOC in Moscow on April 13th.

The Council unanimously approved the election of Raja Randhir Singh as Vice President of ANOC from Asia and Mr. Yu Zaiqing as Member of the ANOC Council from Asia.

The Council decided to create a working group with representatives from each continent to study the modernization of ANOC. This work will be based on the answers on a questionnaire sent out to the NOCs on their vision for the future work of ANOC. The questionnaire is due to be returned to ANOC office in Lausanne by July 1st in order to start the work of the working group as soon as possible.

The Council also decided to create a working group to redraft the constitution of ANOC which should be approved at the ANOC General Assembly in 2013.


An ANOC Athletes commission will be formed consisting of the Presidents of the Continental Athletes Commission. They will elect among themselves a representative to have a seat on the ANOC Executive Council.

The ANOC Council will have an informal meeting in London during the Olympic Games. The next ordinary meeting of the Council is scheduled to November 10th 2012 in Macao.

On April 13th, 2012, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was elected President of ANOC during the XVIII General Assembly by the representatives of the National Olympic Committees, for the period 2012-2014.

Member of the IOC since 1992, President of OCA since 1991, member of many sports federations and organisations, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah successfully led the debates during the ANOC meetings in Moscow and will be chairing the next ANOC Executive Council meeting to be held in Lausanne on May 7th, 2012.

Mr. Patrick J. Hickey, ANOC Vice-President for Europe, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland and IOC Member since 1995, has been appointed Senior Vice-President of ANOC.

Mr. Hickey was elected to this position by the Vice-Presidents of the Executive Council of ANOC: as Senior Vice-President, he will have to perform the functions and exercise the powers of the President in case of the latter's absence or incapacity to act, or to perform such functions whenever the President might request him to.
