2009 - ANOC Executive Council meetingsAND JOINT MEETING WITH THE IOC EXECUTIVE BOARD Lausanne, 8-9 December 2009 The 50th ANOC Executive Council Meeting was held on 8th December 2009 at the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne under the chairmanship of ANOC President Mr Mario Vázquez Raña. IOC President Dr. Jacques Rogge attended the opening of the morning session. The new members proposed by the Continental Association of the NOCs of Africa as their representatives in the Executive Council for 2009-2010, resulting from ANOCA's recent internal elections, were ratified by the Council. They are Counselor Khaled Zein Eldin (Egypt, ANOCA Secretary General), Ms. Dagmawit Girmay (Ethiopia) and Mr Gilbert Grésenguet (Central African Republic). After hearing the reports from the ANOC Secretary General Ms Gunilla Lindberg, the Treasurer Mr Richard Peterkin, the Director of Olympic Solidarity Mr Pere Miró, the Vice-Presidents of the five continents and the report by President of ANOC Mr Mario Vázquez Raña, the Council went on to study topics of major relevance for the National Olympic Committees and their athletes such as, among other items: - Upcoming Olympic events : Olympic Games of London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016, Olympic Winter Games of Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, the First Youth Olympic Games of Singapore 2010; - Compliance with the new World Anti-Doping Code and forms of Cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency; - Follow-up of the XIII Olympic Congress' Recommendations; - Preparations for the next XVII ANOC General Assembly to be held in October 2010 in Acapulco, Mexico. The next ANOC Executive Council is scheduled within the framework of this XVII General Assembly in Acapulco. The next day, December 9th 2009 was held the Joint meeting between the ANOC Executive Council and the IOC Executive Board, to inform the latter of the latest developments in the activities of the National Olympic Committees worldwide, explain various of the NOCs' preoccupations in relation with upcoming Olympic events, and examine the best ways for ANOC and the NOCs to implement the recommendations contained in the conclusions of the XIII Olympic Congress held on October 3-5th 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. 14 June 2009 – Lausanne, Switzerland - 49th ANOC Executive Council meeting The Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees held its 49th meeting on 14 June 2009 in Lausanne, chaired by ANOC President Mario Vázquez Raña. The main items on the agenda related to the following topics : the results of the International Forum on Sport for Peace and Development held in Lausanne on 7-8 May 2009, the XIII Olympic Congress to be held in Copenhagen from the 3rd to the 5th of October 2009, the Debriefing for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad of Beijing 2008, the XXI Olympic Winter Games of Vancouver 2010, the Games of the XXX Olympiad of London 2012, the XXII Olympic Winter Games of Sochi 2014, and cooperation between the World Anti-Doping Agency, ANOC and the Continental Associations. President Vázquez Raña highlighted that the year 2009 was the occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Association of National Olympic Committees, a meaningful event for the National Olympic Committees all over the world. He thanked the President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Jacques Rogge, for his encouraging words and for his acknowledging ANOC's efforts, in particular the "extraordinary work developed by the Presidente of ANOC at the head at this organization during no less than 30 years." In his address at the beginning of the session, Dr. Jacques Rogge underlined the relevance of the independence achieved by ANOC through the Olympic Solidarity Commission, the efficiency of the decentralization process developed over the last years, the permanent attention given to NOCs affected by conflicts, and most importantly the spirit of unity and collaboration existing between all members of ANOC. He emphasized the very active role played by ANOC during the last Olympic Games in Beijing, the sustained efforts made by ANOC and its President for a stronger participation of the NOCs in the XIII Olympic Congress in Copenhagen as well as for the NOCs' compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, and President Vázquez Raña's actions in order to defend the NOCs and help them safeguard their autonomy. The IOC acknowledges the support provided by ANOC and the National Olympic Committees towards the improvement of the Olympic Games operations before, during and after each event. The Executive Council of ANOC assessed the results of the 2005-2008 quadrennium as positive, in particular the organization of the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008, the NOCs' overall sports results over the four-year cycle, the increased efforts to offer support to the NOCs and their athletes, and the pressing need to set new and higher objectives for the 2009-2012 quadrennium. In relation with the First Youth Olympic Games of Singapore 2010, the Council assessed the development of the cultural and educational programme, the composition of the sports programme including 26 sports, and the formats for community projects, cultural and sports activities, exchanges between young Olympic athletes and the World Olympic Village concept. The Council reaffirmed ANOC's, the Continental Associations' and the NOCs' important role in the promotion of sport, peace and development, as well as their permanent contribution towards a sound, clean and sustainable environment through sport. The Council underlined the high importance of the NOCs' input at the XIII Olympic Congress in October 2009.
