2006 - ANOC General Assemblies
2nd-4th April 2006 ľ Seoul Korea - XV ANOC General Assembly
The XV General Assembly took place from the 2nd to the 4th of April and was inaugurated, in the presence governmental and Olympic authorities of the host country, the President of ANOC and the President of the IOC, by the President of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Mr Roh Moo-Hyun, who underlined in his address to the participants in the Assembly that "ANOC has greatly contributed to reconciliation and peace of the humankind, realizing the sublime ideal of the Olympic Games. Along with the IOC, ANOC is now at the centre of the international sports arena, bringing together 203 member countries from all over the world ".
Delegates from 201 NOCs attended the Assembly, chaired by Mr Mario Vázquez Raña, who was unanimously re-elected as President of ANOC for the period 2006-2010. The General Assembly also ratified the appointment for the same period of Mrs Gunilla Lindberg (Sweden) as Secretary General, and Mr Richard Peterkin (Saint Lucia) as Treasurer.
The Assembly approved the reports from the President of ANOC, the Secretary General, the Treasurer and Auditor, the ANOC Commissions and Working Group, as well as the ANOC representatives in the IOC Commissions. The NOC delegates received various communications on a variety of issues, in particular from the OCOGs (Beijing 2008 and London 2012 for the Summer Games, Vancouver 2010 for the Winter Games). The delegates discussed in depth the four Special Topics on the agenda reflecting main concerns of the National Olympic Committees the Olympic Programme; the Role of the NOCs and their Independence in Today's Society, the Fight against Doping in Sport, and Marketing in Sport.
With the aim of promoting the participation of women in Olympic organizations, ANOC had especially invited three women delegates per continent selected by their Continental Organizations to participate in ANOC's General Assembly, with Olympic Solidarity's support.
The XV General Assembly approved the Resolutions resulting from their debates, together with a shorter version which was presented at the Joint Meeting between the IOC Executive Board and the NOCs which took place in the morning of April 5th.
On the occasion of the General Assembly, the ANOC Commissions met in Seoul to define their working plan for the next four years, which will contribute to better work for the NOCs.
All participants praised the excellence of the welcome, hospitality, and organization of their Korean hosts, as well as the great quality of the XV General Assembly.
