The Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees held its 46th meeting on 26 November 2006 in Kuwait City , chaired by ANOC President Mario Vázquez Raña.
ANOC Vice-President for Asia , Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, welcomed the participants as President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), host of the various Olympic meetings held in Kuwait.
The Council heard Secretary General, Ms. Gunilla Lindberg's report which highlighted the organizational aspects of the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, the NOCs' participation in the First International Seminar on the Governance and Autonomy of the Olympic and Sports Movement, attendance at the NOCs' continental meetings, systematic meetings with the International Olympic Committee's specialized Departments, and the ANOC Working Group's findings based on suggestions and recommendations made by the NOCs in relation with concrete actions to be taken to improve specific aspects of the forthcoming Games of the Olympiad in Beijing, in particular the qualification systems, the organization of multiple Olympic Villages, transfer of NOC accreditations, the Games Technical Guide, and the role of the NOCs during the Games. A report on the activities of various ANOC Commissions was also presented.
The Council congratulated the Treasurer, Mr Richard Peterkin on his excellent report presented to the Executive Council, detailing ANOC's expenses for 2006 and the draft budget for the year 2007. It acknowledged the great work carried out by Olympic Solidarity through the World and Continental Programmes, whose results amount to a decisive support in the work of a majority of the NOCs in the five continents. It reaffirmed ANOC's position on the NOCs' inalienable right in relation with the use of sports clothes by the athletes during the Olympic Games.
The Council assessed as very positive and of great practical value the comprehensive and detailed report given by the President of ANOC summing up with great accuracy the many activities developed by ANOC since the XV ANOC General Assembly held in April 2006.
It heard the excellent work developed by each of Continental Association, as reflected in the reports presented to the Executive Council by each Vice-President, and considered as of major importance for the future work of ANOC and its 203 National Olympic Committees the results of the First Seminar on the Governance and Autonomy of the Olympic and Sports Movement.
Following the results of the latest visit of the Coordination Commission in Beijing, the Council considered that in this last and decisive stage, it is necessary to insist that BOCOG should meet the NOCs' recommendations and suggestions for successful Games. Further, it was confirmed that the XVI ANOC General Assembly and other related ANOC meetings will be held in the city of Beijing from the 2nd to the 9th of April 2008.
The Council approved conferring the ANOC Merit Award to Mr Khaled Zain El Din (Egypt) and Mr Ibrahim Abdul Malik Mohammed (United Arab Emirates). The Council expressed thanks to the Kuwait Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia and especially to its President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah for the arrangements provided towards the successful holding of the ANOC Executive Council meeting and the warm hospitality offered, as well as for the opportunity for the Olympic Family to be guest in the inauguration ceremony of the ôDoha 2006ö Asian Games.

ANOC President Mr Mario Vázquez Raña and Secretary General Ms. Gunilla Lindberg took part the next day (November 27) in the meeting of the Olympic Solidarity Commission, of which Mr Vázquez Raña is the Chairman. Mr Vázquez Raña and Ms. Gunilla Lindberg took part in the IOC Executive Board sessions held on November 28-29.
The President, Secretary General and all members of the ANOC Executive Council had a Courtesy Call with the Head of State, H.H. the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, H.H. the Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as well as with the Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Nasser Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah.
The President, Secretary-General and ANOC Executive Council were invited by OCA to attend the XV Asian Games Opening Ceremony on December 1st at the 55,000-seat Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar, an event that gathered over 10,500 athletes from the 45 OCA member nations, who competed until December 15th in 424 events of 39 sports. They also attended the inauguration of the OCA General Assembly on the next day, December 2nd.
In Qatar, ANOC President Mario Vázquez Raña, accompanied by the Secretary General Ms. Gunilla Lindberg and several ANOC Executive Council members who were present in Doha, were received at the Royal Palace by the Head of State, H.H. the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, in the presence of the IOC member, the Heir Apparent H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.
31 March 2006 - Seoul (Korea) - 45th ANOC Executive Council meeting
The Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees gathered for its 45th meeting on 31 March 2006 in Seoul, Korea, chaired by ANOC President Mario Vázquez Raña, who welcomed Mr Peter Ueberroth, President of the United States Olympic Committee, attending an ANOC Executive Council meeting for the first time.
The Executive Council expressed their heartfelt condolences for the passing away of Mr Alain Danet (France), Adviser to the ANOC President, who has been an enthusiastic collaborator of ANOC for several years, and whose demise occurred on March 27 last.
The major item on the Council's agenda was the review of XV General Assembly agenda, including the topics to be discussed by the NOCs.
Further, the Council approved the ANOC Working Group's report on its meeting held on March 29 in Seoul for the debriefing of the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, report to be forwarded to the IOC for its consideration.
The Executive Council of ANOC expressed thanks to the Korean Olympic Committee, and especially to its President, Mr Jung-Kil Kim, for the support provided and the excellent arrangements for a successful organization of the ANOC Executive Council meeting and XV ANOC General Assembly.
