2005 - ANOC Executive Council meetings
44th ANOC Executive Council Meeting in Lausanne (October 25, 2005) and Joint Meeting with the IOC Executive Board (October 26, 2005)
The 44th meeting of the Executive Council of ANOC took place at the IOC premises in Lausanne on October 25, 2005, chaired by ANOC President Mario Vázquez Raña.
Further to hearing the reports by the Secretary General - Treasurer and the Continental Associations on their activities since the last meeting in November 2004, the Executive Council assessed as positive the recommendations put forward by the Working Group chaired by ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg in relation with the NOCs' responsibilities for the Olympic Games, in particular and among other aspects the host NOC's role in the Coordination Commission's meetings, the qualifying rules for Beijing 2008, the athletes' image, the host city contract, and the change of an athlete's nationality.
The Executive Council also discussed the preoccupation of many NOCs as to the process followed by the IOC in determining the number of sports to be part of the Olympic Games Programme.
The Korean Olympic Committee presented its report on preparations for the XV ANOC General Assembly to be held in Seoul, Korea in April 2006, which was received with satisfaction since it was felt that excellent conditions will be ensured for successful meetings in the Korean capital city.
The information provided on the progression of preparations for the Olympic Winter Games of Turin 2006, concerning the quality of venues and the Organizing Committee's efforts to ensure the best possible efficiency, was considered as positive.
The Joint Meeting of the Executive Council of ANOC and IOC Executive Board was held the next day, 26 October, during which President Mario Vázquez Raña handed over the recommendations approved by the 44th ANOC Executive Council meeting to IOC President Dr Jacques Rogge, who thanked ANOC for its significant input in the Olympic Movement's work and emphasized that the National Olympic Committees' views will be carefully examined by the IOC.
ANOC will hold its next (45th) Executive Council meeting on March 31, 2006 in Seoul, Korea.
