23-24 November 2004 ľ 43rd ANOC Executive Council meeting and joint meeting with the IOC Executive Board
The ANOC Executive Council gathered in Lausanne on November 23rd for its 43rd meeting, chaired by ANOC President Mario Vázquez Raña. The Council ratified the nomination of USOC President Peter Ueberroth as ANOC Executive Council member. It also approved the nominations of ANOC's representatives on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Executive Committee and Foundation Board.
It heard from the ANOC President, in his capacity as Chairman of the Solidarity Commission, detailed information on the work of the Commission that met the previous day, and expressed its enthusiastic support to the decisions adopted concerning the 2005-2008 cycle programmes, budgets, and a series of measures that will further improve Olympic Solidarity's work.
The Council approved various nominations to the ANOC Merit Award, to be ratified by the next General Assembly. It approved the rules that are to govern the functioning of ANOC's Commissions.
The Council heard with interest the Vice-Presidents' reports on continental activities, and approved the report presented by ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg covering ANOC's activities carried out since the last Council meeting held in Athens in February last. In particular, the analysis made by ANOC's technical Working Group on the NOCs' contributions in relation with their experience of the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad was assessed as a positive document and will serve as a basis for a common approach with the IOC and ASOIF on how to improve various aspects that will enable the NOCs to better carry out their missions before and during the Olympic Games.
In connection with the Olympic Games, the Council endorsed the President's proposal of a possible joint meeting with the ASOIF Council in order to evaluate how to best answer the concerns of both NOCs and International Federations in areas of common interest.
The next meeting of the Council is tentatively scheduled for May 2005 in Mexico City, pending the determination of the exact date.
The next day, November 24th, the Council had a joint meeting with the IOC Executive Board, where the full report of the ANOC Working Group concerning the conclusions to be drawn from the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad was presented to the IOC President. Said conclusions will be studied at a meeting to be held on January 19, 2005, including ANOC's representatives, the Coordination Commissions' Chairmen, and the Chairman of the 2012 Evaluation Commission.
